This is the third concert I’ve been to at The Palace this year and every time I go there I love it even more. It’s hard to explain to someone who hasn’t been there before but it’s just a great sized venue and has a great atmosphere.

I didn’t know either of the support acts (Jamie Hay and Dave Haus) but they were both really good. Jamie Hay played 4 songs but in that short time I thought he was pretty good. Dave Haus was really good, his style of music reminds me of Justin Sane (Anti-Flag’s) solo songs which I really like. I’ve made a mental note to check out his music after seeing him.

And now onto The Gaslight Anthem…

The crowd was quite relaxed except for the very middle section. I ended up being a few rows from the front on the floor which turned out to be an awesome spot.
The Gaslight Anthem opened with the title track from their most recent album Handwritten which everyone sang the words to and definitely started the show out well. After this they launched into Howl which is also off their current album. Next up they chose to play a few songs from their album The ’59 Sound which obviously went down a treat. Getting to hear Even Cowgirls Get The Blues was a highlight and it’s one of my favourite Gaslight Anthem songs. The ’59 Sound is just one of those songs that no matter how many times you hear it you love it even more than you already did. This was one that got the whole crowd singing and even some moshing too. The lead singer was taken aback by all of us singing the words to The Gaslight Anthem’s songs and was smiling after a lot of the songs. It honestly is great seeing a band that really appreciates all their fans and especially every single person at the concert that night. “45” was another highlight of the concert because it’s just a song that you want to sing the words to and it’s just got great lyrics. Dave Haus joined them on stage to do backing vocals on this track which was cool. There were some older songs I didn’t know as well but still sounded great to hear. One thing The Gaslight Anthem did really well with this set is they mixed songs from all their albums and it just sounded so fantastic. Honestly it didn’t matter if there were songs you didn’t know any or all the words to because you could just enjoy it in your own way. Great Expectations and Keepsake were the last two songs before they came off for the encore.

After what felt like ages The Gaslight Anthem returned to the stage and played She Loves You. I don’t know this song overly well but it was a good song to play to start the encore. Then they moved to a more current song (Mulholland Drive) and to an older one (1930). I am quite sure the two songs they ended with are fan favourites; Here’s Looking At You, Kid and The Backseat. I couldn’t think of a better way to end the concert.

Until this night I had never seen The Gaslight Anthem live so I’m really glad I decided to go. Honestly if you’re a fan of their music at all and you haven’t seen them yet you should definitely go, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
